Job Title

Technical Sales Team Lead

Reports to

Technical Sales Manager

Job Purpose

To provide leadership and technical supervision to technical sales staff to assist in winning new business. The Technical Sales Team Lead is responsible for the delivery of technical sales services to the local and global sales teams in the area of responsibility and for ensuring all presentations, demonstrations, proposals and pilots are workable and are in-line with OUR CLIENT’s messaging and strategic objectives. The position may be required to travel at short notice to one of OUR CLIENT’s offices, or a customer location, anywhere in the region or around the world. It is also expected that the job holder will provide services and consultancy to the same level as described in the job description for a Level 6 Technical Sales Consultant.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Manage a team of technical sales consultants to make most effective use of time, skills and knowledge to maximise revenue from amongst all potential opportunities in the region, area or location of responsibility.
  • Build an effective pool of technical sales resources that are highly skilled, well trained and able to meet the demands of the sales operations in the region, area or location of responsibility. Specifically, these resources should, for all OUR CLIENT products and solutions, have the capability to:
    • Communicate the value proposition of our solutions to prospects at presentations, workshops, industry events and seminars
    • Plan, create, organise and execute proof of concept presentations and demonstrations to prospects that prove the value of our technical solution to their specific needs/problems.
    • Engage with prospects to understand specific needs/problems and then devise appropriate technical solutions.
    • Prepare and present technical proposals to solve specific prospect needs/problems.
  • Responsible for all technical sales staff in the area of responsibility in respect of:
    • Compliance and use of business systems, including time reporting and resource management.
    • Planning and organising workload.
    • Contribution to the development of a forward-looking resource plan
    • Performance review.
    • Professional skill and competency development, training, coaching and mentoring.
    • Reporting of team performance indicators and other metrics.
    • Managing delegated budget in terms of travel and expenses costs.
    • Recruiting high-quality candidates, according to budget and recruitment guidelines.
  • Provide Technical Support (including training, implementation and consultancy), on occasion, as required by line management.

·  Work with other technical managers to co-ordinate cross-team activities and ensure the most effective use of technical resources.

Important Working Relationships

  • Prospects: Develop trusted working relationships with clients and always provide the highest level of customer service and professionalism.
  • Sales: Work as a partner with the account managers and sales managers to provide technical business insight for new or existing customers/accounts. Collaborate closely with the sales teams in identifying and qualifying opportunities, providing technical support at all levels of prospect engagement and ensuring throughout that proposed solutions are workable and are in-line with OUR CLIENT’s strategic objectives. In consultation with account managers, sales management and operations management, prioritise technical sales resource allocation to sales opportunities.
  • Technical: Work within a dynamic team and show flexibility in the use and development of personal and technical skills to maximise the team’s efficiency. Collaborate with managers in other technical teams on career and skills development of resources.
  • Coaching and mentoring junior employees.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required

Experience & Qualifications

  • No prior management experience is required, but evidence of strong leadership skills, including the ability to motivate a team of professional, highly skilled technical specialists and consultants.
  • Experience with Instrumentation and/or Electrical Design is a requirement as the job holder will be required to support sales activities for these disciplines throughout the region.
  • Experience with engineering design software and an affiliation with its use in the engineering and design industry is a must.
  • Experience across the many phases of the EPC project lifecycle is desirable.
  • Experience with 3D software would be a Plus.
