JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary

The (Project) Accountant will execute all matters concerning bookkeeping, country-applicable taxes, and financial and accounting matters for the project, ensuring the integrity of internal controls and accounting information in compliance with IFRS, and maintaining the integrity of the General Ledger (GL) to ensure accurate reporting of the financial results.

Responsibilities

Financial accounting

•Record the business transactions related to the project in the accounting register (GL) in full compliance with reporting and accounting standards and the Company’s financial policies and procedures.

•Prepare monthly trial balance and ensure the accuracy, quality and timely closing of Books.

•Perform the monthly accruals and provisions for accuracy and completeness.

•Ensure the integrity of the accounting software or similar system/data.

•Support the external audit process of periodic financial statements as per directives received.

•Prepare monthly ageing reports for accounts receivable and payables in full compliance with IFRS and the Company’s financial policies and procedures.

•Perform monthly reconciliation of bank accounts, customers/vender reconciliation and all balance sheet accounts in full compliance with IFRS and the Company’s financial policies and procedures.

•Report on project costs – perform breakdown of capex and other significant balances in full compliance with IFRS and the Company’s financial policies and procedures.

•Process accruals as per IFRS standards to ensure account accuracy at all times.

•Perform cash management and regular monitoring of cash flow and bank account balances to ensure accuracy.

•Create purchase orders as per the agreements and match to vendor invoices for payment processes.

•Manage monthly, quarterly and annual closing processes, reporting and activities in full compliance with IFRS and the Company’s financial policies and procedures.

•Manage all payroll functions and accounting processes to ensure payroll administration on time and as per policies, including preparation of employees' compensation by the end of each month and monitoring of employees’ timesheets and leaves.

Managerial accounting and reporting

•Prepare cash flow forecasts, monthly management reports, managerial financial reports, financial analyses, and budgets periodically as required by stakeholders.

•Prepare relevant reports and updates as required and to the set standards.

•Prepare workings for the analysis of Budget vs Actual outturn

•Provide financial statements in the prescribed template after each month-end.

•Prepare the trial balance alongside any relevant details.

•Report on the company’s financial health and liquidity to ensure that management is aware of any requirements or actions needed at all times.

Manage project finance

•Prepare reports according to the project financial documentation to ensure accurate project finance.

•Prepare the required documents for distribution to all project stakeholders.

•Monitor the debt repayments to each lender, including interest and hedge in line with agreements.

•Perform tasks to address any requests in relation to the financing received from the international financial institutions.

Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR) and Asset accounting

•Perform AP and AR work and reports to ensure compliance with the Company’s accounting regulation requirements.

•Initiate invoice approval status and ensure processing timelines are being managed.

•Prepare and reconcile month-end AP and AR reports

•Perform reconciliation and ageing and follow up where required.

•Enter third-party invoices in AR and AP ledgers alongside required supporting documents.

•Maintain the fixed assets register and inventory register in line with applicable standards.

Audit support

•Prepare year-end Balance Sheet, Income Statement and Cash Flow Statement in the format to be provided and, if required, IFRS-compliant.

•Support internal and external audit process by providing and following up on all documents and requirements.

•Take the necessary actions on all open audit points to close them successfully and minimise risk.

Tax compliance

•Act as the focal point for tax authorities and prepare and file tax reporting and payments as per applicable laws, informing decision-makers of tax consequences of various business decisions.

•Maintain tax accounting in separate books as required by tax law and ensure full compliance of tax reports with applicable laws.

•Perform the collection of receivables from tax authorities and resolve all activities and issues around external tax inspections.

•Advise on tax liability optimisation and legal initiatives related to taxation in the area of renewable energy.

•Assess the need to involve external tax advisors on complex tax matters on a timely basis, including requests for commercial proposals.

•Analyse Permanent Establishment for withholding tax implications, reading Double Tax Conventions and requesting Tax Residence Certificates.

•File transfer pricing activities and notifications in full compliance with IFRS and the Company’s financial policies and procedures.

Customs & statistical compliance

•Prepare, as per applicable laws, the customs and statistical filings, informing decision-makers of customs consequences of various business decisions.

•Check for full compliance of customs declarations and statistical reports with applicable laws.

•Act as a focal point with statistical authorities and customs and perform all activities related to external customs inspections, advising on customs liability optimisation and legal initiatives related to taxation in the area of renewable energy.

•Record the import transactions in the statutory system in line with guidelines.

Payments & bank accounts

Perform local and foreign bank account payments and bank-related activities.

•Prepare the month-end bank reconciliations to ensure clear reconciliation of items on the bank reconciliations.

•Ensure bank deposits are reconciled and categorised correctly as deposit, short- or long- term restricted cash.

•Ensure compliance with the Company’s DOA on payments and contracting matters

Contribution to stakeholder relations•Build and maintain a network of relevant contacts to support daily activities and long-term objectives of the team.

•Engage with and monitor relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure adequate knowledge transfer and completion of services as per agreed parameters.

Compliance with standards and forms

•Apply consistent approaches/discipline and standardised forms in line with relevant policies, processes and procedures.

Preparation of relevant updates and reports

•Prepare relevant reports and updates as required and to the desired standard.

•Provide management information as and when required by the line manager – this includes the production and timely provision of accurate reports in line with reporting schedules.

Compliance with information security policies, procedures and requirements at all times

•Adhere to any applicable Company information security policies and procedures and identify and report security incidents and suspected weaknesses to the appropriate point(s) of contact.

•Protect assets under care (e.g. laptops and other devices) and information/credentials against unauthorised access, sharing, and/or damage/loss, in accordance with the Information Classification and Handling Procedure.

•Clear desks of all sensitive material and log off/ lock workstations at the end of the day and when leaving desk for a prolonged period in accordance with Acceptable Usage Policies.

•Ensure no installing, copying or modifying of any software on the Company’s equipment without authorisation.

Requirements

•Bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject (accounting, taxation, business, finance, economics)

•Qualified accountant ACCA, CAP, CIPA, DipIFR or similar

•At least 4-6 years of experience in bookkeeping, taxation, financial management, and accounting in major infrastructure projects and construction companies

•Enthusiastic about advancing in IFRS and good corporate governance.
