JOB DESCRIPTION

Purpose

Responsible for the overall day-to-day control and running of the working capital operations portion of the business including, but not limited to, invoicing of clients, cash monitoring and collections, disbursements to vendors and third-party providers, overall liquidity, cash forecasting and analysis.

Responsibilities

As a key manager in Malaysia Management Team, the Financial Controller will be responsible for the overall functioning of Finance & Accounting, Consolidations, Planning & Analysis responsibilities. The person will also work with the various country teams in the region to drive metrics and KPIs and initiate/own various projects to improve the efficiency and productivity of the finance functions.

  • Ensure timely and complete monthly and quarterly reporting – for Regional reporting as well as local management reporting requirements.
  • Reviewing and helping to drive margins in various product lines of the business
  • Management of working capital including Cash, AR, AP and WIP – to ensure the improvement of the key KPIs.
  • Management of tax, audit, banks and leasing arrangements.
  • Manage General & Administration expenditure to be in line with target and KPI, and compliance with General Affairs Policy and Procedures (GAPP) at all time.
  • Preparation of annual budget within schedule.
  • Advise management on new projects and CAPEX investment, including suitable automation suite to enhance on the efficiency and productivity of the Accounting, admin and HR functions.
  • Management of the Weekly operating report and ensure timely weekly reporting.
  • Working with the region CFO closely to build a performing team for both Finance and ICT functions in Malaysia

Accounting

  • Ensure accurate and timely financial information and reports for statutory and management purposes.
  • Manage the statutory audits.
  • Manage budgets.
  • Manage the accounting function for other business entities in Malaysia.
  • Work closely with Finance Shared Service on country accounting/billing transactions and processing.

Business Analysis

  • Provide information for management analysis for the local operations, including client/product line profitability analysis, business activities analysis etc – with establishment of relevant platform to facilitate the analysis as necessary from time to time.
  • Assist in financial modeling necessary for business development, including for example costing for new products, investment of new establishment, return on capex investment etc.
  • Assisting in the business, legal, tax and compliance reviews of offshore contracts signed under the entities. Also, to maintain and review such contracts regularly.

Financial Control Standard

  • Ensure compliance with the General Affairs Policy and Procedures (GAPP) for Malaysia.
  • Ensure compliance of accounting/reporting treatment in line with the Group requirements, including the treatment for new products

Bank/Leasing

  • Ensure the proper functioning of treasury and financing relationship

Working Capital Management

  • Cash: Ensure minimum cash holding and maximization of available cash (i.e. minimization of receipt in transit).
  • WIP: Drive billings efficiency and productivity to enable quick working capital turnaround.
  • Accounts Receivable: Drive collections and ensure collections based on credit limit & terms – with minimal bad debts.
  • Accounts Payable: Establish good credit terms with service providers, and manage the payments. Managing Network and other supplier discounts.
  • Manage the banking and financing relationships with existing or potential financial institutions

Tax

  • Working with Corporate/Regional office to ensure tax optimization planning.
  • Advise on the implications and issues relating to business taxes e.g. withholding tax etc.

ICT

  • Delivering projects and initiatives that leverage on existing ICT infrastructure.
  • Working with ICT to initiate new ideas that showcase the improvements in processes

Process Improvements

  • Continuously review work processes to ensure efficient workflow to maximize staff efficiency.
  • Reorganization/Restructure of the team to ensure maximum productivity for delivery of the business requirements.
  • Lead or implement new projects as necessary from time to time.

Management of TEAM: Finance and ICT

  • Working with the region CFO to ensure adequacy of F&A and ICT personnel – including monitoring and assessment of performance, career development, recruitment and retention of quality personnel, training & streamline any functions where appropriate to strengthen the Team ‘s productivity.
  • In working with the larger region operating finance team, the person should have the maturity and capability of managing a large team across a highly matrix structure.

Requirements

  • Previous experience with a Big 4 public accounting firm and/or exposure to the hospitality industry is an advantage.
  • Computer literate, preferably with knowledge of enterprise systems
  • Commercial savvy with good knowledge in tax, treasury function & financial analysis
  • Must be methodical, logical and organized.
  • Strong leadership, good problem-solving skills and results-oriented.
