Job Purpose

The Technical Sales Consultant's primary responsibility is to provide technical leadership to the sales account managers throughout a complete sales cycle. These pre-sales activities include but are not limited to:

  • developing opportunities working with the sales & marketing teams
  • attending internal/external meetings and providing ideas and opinions to achieve the best solution for customers
  • providing technical presentations and demonstrations
  • providing technical architecture, bill of materials and/or technical write-ups for proposal work
  • providing product or solution training to the internal teams and external customers

Description

To perform the above-mentioned activities, this role will work closely with key teams within the company including Marketing, Sales, Delivery, Customer Support, Business Units and R&D. This role will be responsible for identifying, developing and maintaining the best software solution to help customers satisfy their business requirements and to solve their problems in a competitive environment. The role requires continual learning about new technologies, industry trends and competitors’ information, so that our company’s unique value proposition for our target customers can be clearly articulated.

The main focus of this role will be on either our suite of Monitoring and Control products, namely, the Wonderware System Platform, Citect, InTouch, Wonderware Historian, OI Servers (PLC comms), Automation systems and Reporting systems, or our range of Manufacturing Execution System (MES) products. The role will integrate our solutions with ERP systems, Automation systems and Reporting systems.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Creating and maintaining customer presentations and demonstrations with clear value propositions.
  • Developing and maintaining sales opportunities captured in the CRM (Salesforce) by working closely with the marketing and sales teams.
  • Activities including sales support, marketing event support, proposal support, studies will be captured in the CRM
  • Learning & development to upskill core skill sets and learning other solutions to expand scope are required.

Important Working Relationships

As part of a global organization with a regional focus, you will be able to leverage on the knowledge of the Technical Sales community round the world and apply it to your local region. Sales teams are responsible for creating opportunities with our customers and rely on your skills to supply a solution to fit the requirements. There is a Distribution Channel which markets and sells our software on our behalf to System Integrators, and as such you will be required to interact with the Distributors and SI’s, assisting them with the solutions as well as updating them on our product enhancements.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required

You are someone who gets excited by innovation, improving operations and optimizing manufacturing facilities. You are a highly driven and a confident technical sales professional who wants to work for a values-based organization with leading-edge solutions. You are focused, collaborative and passionate about the work that you do. In addition, you possess the following relevant skills:

  • Tertiary qualifications in engineering/IT with experience in Monitoring and Control Or MES systems in the manufacturing space, operations management and information technology, and interest in automation
  • An ability to build long-term, customer-focused relationships is essential with solid, direct and related sales experience being highly advantageous
  • Sound commercial acumen in proposing optimal architectures/systems that meet the customers’ business needs
  • An ability to communicate the differentiating elements in a simple yet convincing manner
  • Technical engineering/application design or validation background
  • Willingness to travel to customer locations as required (approx. 35% travel)
  • A competent communicator at all levels, particularly, the C-level
  • A good understanding of our main markets, Consumer Packaged Goods, Mining, Metals & Minerals, Water & Wastewater, Power, Oil & Gas, Infrastructure and Marine
  • An ability to operate effectively as a member of a dynamic team within a matrixed organization, often working across multiple countries and time zones.
  • Possessing excellent written and spoken English skills; any additional Asian language skill will be an advantage.
  • Investing in own self-study related to the industry, software and supporting technologies
