JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary

A Process Engineer specialising in sheet metal fabrication is responsible for designing, optimising, and improving manufacturing processes specific to sheet metal production. This role requires expertise in sheet metal fabrication techniques, equipment, and materials. The process engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure efficient and high-quality sheet metal fabrication processes.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop efficient manufacturing processes for sheet metal fabrication, including cutting, bending, forming, welding, and assembly operations.
• Optimise process parameters, tooling, and equipment selection to achieve high-quality and cost-effective production.
• Collaborate with design engineers to provide input on manufacturability and design for manufacturing (DFM) guidelines for sheet metal parts.
• Conduct feasibility studies and process simulations to evaluate the viability and efficiency of proposed manufacturing processes.
• Perform time and motion studies to determine cycle times, machine utilisation, and labour requirements for sheet metal fabrication operations.
• Identify opportunities for process improvement, cost reduction, and quality enhancement through the application of Lean Six Sigma and other process improvement methodologies.
• Develop and implement process control plans, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and work instructions to ensure consistent and reliable production.
• Collaborate with equipment vendors and suppliers to select, install, and commission sheet metal fabrication equipment.
• Conduct process validations, capability studies, and statistical process control (SPC) to ensure adherence to specifications and quality standards.
• Provide technical support to production teams, troubleshoot process-related issues and implement corrective actions.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives, lead root cause analyses, and implement corrective and preventive actions to address process inefficiencies and quality non-conformances.
• Stay updated with advancements in sheet metal fabrication technologies, materials, and industry best practices.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams during new product development, design changes, and process transfer activities.
• Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, regulations, and safety guidelines in sheet metal fabrication processes.

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering
• Detail-oriented approach and commitment to delivering high-quality results.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Knowledge of relevant industry standards and regulations, such as ISO 9001, AS9100, and AWS D1.1, is desirable.
