JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Legal Counsel, NEA & SEA
Reports to: In-House Legal Counsel, Asia Pacific
Department: Legal Department
Job Purpose
The Legal Counsel supports the Legal Team in NEA & SEAA. He/She is the first contact to all departments for all legal and contract related matters. He/She will report to the In-House Legal Counsel, Asia Pacific.
Dimensions
The Legal Counsel will cover the full spectrum of legal and contractual related activities. This role will be based out of Our Client’s office in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Principal Accountabilities
Support In-House Legal Counsel on all legal matters for Our Client’s Group of Companies in NEA & SEAA including but not limited to the following: -
· All legal and contractual related activities, such as advisory work, drafting, reviewing, negotiating contracts, including software licensing, project implementation service contract, teaming agreement, prime contract and subcontract agreements, RFQ, RFP, value added reseller agreement, sales channel partner agreement, NDAs, tenancy, facility and other contracts;
· Ability to identify, analyse and form his/her own opinion on various legal issues and matters and advise the business appropriately;
- Support projects and initiatives, including legal and contract documentation realignment, streamlining, rationalisation and simplification;
- Support and provide training to Sales team to ensure consistency in approach and compliance with Our Client’s Corporate Standards/Policies as well as increasing legal awareness level within Sales and other relevant business units;
· Provide regular updates on changes to the applicable laws and regulations.
- Administrate contracts such as creating standard contracts based on Our Client’s global templates, monitoring signatures process, and filing;
- Maintain physical and electronic contract databases of all executed contracts and other related documentation;
- Preparation of reports;
- Establish good communication and working relationship with his/her line manager and all business units, including Sales, Licensing, Finance, Solutions.
- Liaising and managing external counsel and relevant authorities.

As part of a service-providing department, it is important that the Legal Counsel fulfils his/her duties with a service-oriented, open-minded, communicative and self-confident mindset and easily integrates with international teams with strongly customer-oriented expectations. The key contacts will be with the following persons:
• Licensing team members;
• Sales team members;
• Finance team members;
• Project Delivery/Solutions team members;
• Marketing team members;
• Human Resource team members; and
• Customers and external counsels.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required
• 6 - 8 years working experience in an internationally operating company as part of a Legal and/or Contract Management team;
· (Preferred) - admitted as an advocate and solicitor in High Court of Malaya;
• a law degree from a recognised university;
• fluent in English both verbally and in writing;
• ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and efficiently;
• strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively;
• enjoys the scrutiny of s accurateness in documents and processes;
• enjoys improving standards and processes in a vibrant, fast-growing and strongly customer-oriented business environment, solution orientedness; and
• strong skills with Microsoft Office Software.
