JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary

The incumbent is involved in bringing products from the concept stage to mass production. He is required to assist R&D teams in product designs through interaction with the Manufacturing team, suppliers, sample management, proto-builds and testing, support sustaining engineering activities and SMP programs for the shipping products. Being able to communicate and manage suppliers is an essential aspect of the job.

Responsibilities

• Participate in design reviews and critique designs based on knowledge of the Company's manufacturing & supplier capabilities
• Design printer enclosure parts by working with the R&D team
• Conduct design analysis using DOE
• Solve problems independently, Own and accountable to deliver the assigned work on time, cost and quality
• Assemble and test prototypes
• Work with the R&D and manufacturing team to transfer products from design to manufacturing
• Liaise with and manage suppliers. This involves communicating with suppliers on our design requirements and managing them to ensure that they are competent in meeting their deliverables
• Support tooling qualification, DFMA with suppliers & R&D team
• Key interface with manufacturing engineering & sourcing supporting creation and sign off on the mfg & supplier plans at all stage gates.
• Technical leadership, responsible for the NPD (new product development) transition of new products from the design team to manufacturing
• Lead resource working with manufacturing, project team, sourcing and quality to deliver successful prototypes, engineering builds within operations. Key commercialisation sign-off resource
• In conjunction with the design team, take primary responsibility for rigorous technical capability evaluation/approval of key suppliers for NPD programs.
• Key technical resource to lead and support sustaining engineering projects, delivering substantial cost reductions, and cost of quality enhancements related to the design of the product or process.
• Key technical resource to sign off on all design-related management of change processes, including ECOs, BOM, supplier changes, representing R&D and the global design teams

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience, Design/NPD project/product
• Understand Plastic injection moulding and Sheet metal stamping/Machining, Die casting with a basic understanding of the tooling processes (Mechanical)
• Able to understand Electrical boards & Firmware flashing.
• Able to work independently and in a team
• Working knowledge of SolidWorks

• Excellent English verbal and written communication skills and experience writing technical specifications
• Document various aspects at different stages of development. Read & understand 3-D drawings, ability to make small part changes with direction through emails/phone calls
• Provide training to suppliers, operators or technicians
• Knowledge of Six Sigma, GD&T & FEA is advantageous
